Home Building Facility Tour: Foundation and Steel

Clayton Homes is one of the largest home builder in America. We manufacture modular and mobile homes, apartments, commercial buildings, military barracks, and college dormitories to people all across America. Our goal is to open doors to a better life, one home at a time by providing an opportunity to affordable home ownership. Choose from hundreds of floor plans, and then customize your new home to satisfy your every need. We engineer homes to last a lifetime with materials designed to provide maximum strength. Unlike mobile home manufacturers of the past, Clayton Homes precision-builds in state-of-the-art facilities throughout the country. Check out this video about how we build our homes!

Clayton begins every home with American steal. The steal foundation is specifically built for each home individually. I-beams are welded together with cross members for stability, then strengthened further by outriggers. Next workers lay down a nylon, vapor barrier to prevent moisture from entering the home. Insulation by Johns Manville is rolled out next to increase energy efficiency. (Check out the insulation installation: http://claytonhomes.com/hbf_tour/#parallax-2) Pex plumbing is added within the insulation blanket to keep water temperatures constant while the floor system, engineered for strength and durability, is built over top the insulation. Once the lower layers of the foundation are complete, an interlocking floor decking is laid down to keep the floor structurally sound. To complete the foundation, workers secure water resilient linoleum or carpet flooring to the decking.
